PlayStation has always been there when I was a kid. From memorable adventures in Final Fantasy IX to road battle madness in Twisted Metal, the PlayStation brand brought a lot of great games in the past and even today! Sony didn’t just make innovated storytelling in video-games, they crafted and gave birth to amazing characters and universe that players get to experience and connect with. Now we take a trip back to memory lane and see how games have changed over time in the PlayStation-verse.
God of War
Facing the gods of the Greek mythology isn’t only entertaining, but it’s also satisfying to experience a hack ‘n slash adventure where you get to brutally murder creatures and take down insanely huge titans to the ground. Back in 2005, Santa Monica Studio produced one of the most compelling PlayStation exclusives back in the day where players get to be away from reality for a few hours and live as the God-killing Spartan, Kratos.
Now, in 2018, we see a much older and wise Kratos in another adventure of killing Gods with his son, Atreus, but this time in the Nordic lands where Thor and Odin sit in the center of them all.
Uncharted
I remember the only reason why I had to buy a PlayStation 3 just a month before I bought my PlayStation 4 was because of Uncharted. Ever since its huge success with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in 2009, Naughty Dog was crowned to be master of the action-adventure genre. With great characters such as Nathan Drake, Sully, Elena, and Chloe, the Uncharted franchise is one of the best exclusives on the platform.
Uncharted currently has 4 mainline entry and 1 spin-off, so if you’ve missed Uncharted on the PS3, you can get Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on the PS4.
Gran Turismo
In video-games, it’s not all about action, killing monsters, or traveling to ancient temples. You also get to race with automobiles, this is where Polyphony Digital is an expert on. In 1997, the first Gran Turismo entry launched. The franchise lived through the years and is considered to be the ‘real driving simulator’. You get to learn the basic fundamentals of racing, customization of your cars, and the realism of driving a vehicle.
Ratchet & Clank
Our favorite Lombax, Ratchet, came from the planet Veldin, and with his clunky mechanical sidekick, Clank, they’re up to save the universe from evil forces. In 2002, just a few years after the PS2 launched, Ratchet & Clank was born. This was soon after the original PlayStation mascot, Crash Bandicoot, departed as an exclusive icon for the brand. Now, Ratchet & Clank stayed to live in the PlayStation galaxy.
The 2016 reboot surely made the original Ratchet & Clank look visually stunning and enticing for players to experience.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man’s first launch on the PS1 was in 2001. We get to face against iconic villains in the Spider-Man universe such as Venom, Carnage, and Mysterio. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new Spider-Man. Ever since the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), a video-game based on the film with the same name, there were only mobile spin-offs and it seemed that Activision gave up on Spider-Man games. Apparently, Sony didn’t want to let that go. They hired Insomniac Games to develop an all-new open-world Spider-Man game with its own narrative approach and unique gameplay experience that differs from its predecessors. It’s just a few more weeks away before launch and we are all excited to get our hands on Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4).
