“Kingdom Hearts III was the best-selling game of January 2019,” NPD Analyst Mat Piscatella said. Launch month were 2.5 times that of its predecessors, Kingdom Hearts II, that debuted on PlayStation 2 in March 2006. Marking its second month in history that a Kingdom Hearts game has topped the best-sellers chart. On top of this, Square Enix has reported that they have shipped over 5 million units globally making this franchise the fastest selling game.
Resident Evil II ranked as the second top selling game with launch sales 2.8 times higher than the launch month of the original game which was released on January 1998. Capcom announced that this is their second biggest launch on Steam, after Monster Hunter: World, as they shipped 3 million copies in its first week of sales. This game also bagged the highest grossing sales in XBOX One Platform.
Coming in third is New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe with launch dollar sales 30% higher than New Super Mario Bros. U that was launched on Wii U on November 2012.
