Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Reveal Reason Why Multiplayer Not Launching On Release

CD Projekt RED level designer Max Pears recently revealed the reason why the development team behind upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077 will not have the multiplayer feature on day one.

Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer will not be available on day one

Several gamers who were anticipating the news about the details for the multiplayer feature were dismayed of its recent information – no multiplayer on release date. Some of them asked for a detailed explanation why it should not be included on day one since the whole game has been in development for already six years.

The reason for not including the multiplayer feature is actually due to the developers focusing more on making sure that it will fit into the game’s narrative. They did not want to make it a failure, so they will have to delay it a bit before they actually implement it into the main game. They do not want to make a mess out of it.

Pears revealed more information about this reason and the team’s commitment to make the multiplayer feature an enjoyable experience. Here’s his statement:

I can’t say too much on it because it’s still going through its process, but it’s about making that multiplayer fits in with the lore of the world and it feels right.

It’s about making sure it fits in with who we are as a company as well, because story is so important to us, plus it needs to fit in with how we design and deliver games.

That’s why it was so important to go through the R&D process with it, to make sure that we’re not just throwing something in and that it feels like a CD Projekt Red multiplayer that has our beliefs and design philosophy.

We’ve still got work going on and we’re hiring to make sure that we get the right people for the job. The main focus is still single-player right now and we’re making sure that people understand that this world is more than big enough for single-player.

So there you have it, multiplayer will definitely work if the development team is really making a lot of effort for this. Hopefully it will perfectly work when it gets implemented into the main game.

The full game will launch on April 16, 2020. It will be available on PlayStation 4.
