Ys IX: Monstrum Nox to release in Japan soon
Nihon Falcom recently tweeted a more precise release date estimate for the upcoming video game sequel. It was revealed that the game will launch in Japan first in Fall 2019 for PlayStation 4. Previously it was only within this year and no specific date or season.
イースⅨたくさんの方にご期待いただき、大変ありがとうございます!開発は快調に進んでいますが、まだ開発は途上です。発売はあくまでも"予定"であり"決定"ではございません。よろしくご理解ください。 https://t.co/qKmGzQc8AA

In another tweet, the developer specified that the release date is still an estimate since the game is still in development. So that means this might change in the future depending on the situation.
President Toshihiro Kondo stated that the game will be standalone. Players will not need to play the previous Ys games to understand it. It is still recommended to play the previous ones to get more acquainted to the gameplay.
