Due to the massive failure and negative critical reception of Overkill’s The Walking Dead on PC last year in November, Skybound Entertainment recently announced that it ended its contract with Starbreeze Studios stating that it didn’t meet ‘expectations’.
“As of today, we have terminated our contract with Starbreeze Studios and will discontinue all efforts on Overkill’s The Walking Dead. We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately Overkill’s The Walking Dead did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised. We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game.”
For Skybound to pull the plug so abruptly, it’s evident there were agreements between the company and the game studio that didn’t happen. The Walking Dead is a massive television show with spectacular ratings and with the success of Telltale Games’ interactive take of The Walking Dead, Skybound was clearly happy with its critical reception. However, games like The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct and Overkill’s own take that didn’t manage to uphold its end of the bargain, decisions as this happen.
It was announced that the console versions of the game postponed due to some changes and improvements, but with Skybound announcing that it is ending its relationship with the studio, release on PS4 will surely not happen anymore.
