Game developer NetherRealm Studios recently revealed that upcoming action fighting video game Mortal Kombat 11 will have paid premium currency.

Mortal Kombat 11 paid cosmetics scheme

Game producer Shaun Himmerick recently revealed some interesting information about MK11 in a recent livestream to show off new characters. He stated that there is an in-game currency called time crystals, which can be earned through playing the game in normal terms. It can also be purchased via real money.

The time crystals, however, cannot be used to buy gear that can alter actual skill or character moves. It can purchase other stuff like skins, cosmetic gear, intro and victory animations, and easy fatalities. Easy fatalities are consumable items, which makes it easier to pull off those gory finishers.

Himmerick stated:

Nothing in the game requires time crystals. You can play the game, unlock all the stuff, without every dealing with the time crystals. If you want, you can get time crystals and shortcut your way to different things.

The developers strictly confirmed that there will be no loot boxes. Everything will be purchasable directly.

MK11 will be coming to the PlayStation 4. It will be available on April 23.
