Game publisher CAPCOM recently told a gaming publication in an exclusive interview that Devil May Cry 5 will have microtransactions.

Devil May Cry 5 Microtransactions details

According to this specific gaming publication, during their session with the game at Tokyo Game Show 2018, they approached one of its features in-game, which is the Divinity Statue. This is a feature which allows players to upgrade their characters with the orbs that they have collected after winning a fight. Somewhere in the menu, they saw an option where they could spend real money on orbs to upgrade their characters.

Game director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed this when the publication asked about the microtransaction feature. They wanted players to have the option on how to play the game they want to. If they want to save time and get all the bonuses and upgrades all at once, then they can do that.

Itsuno stated that the prices of such upgrades will depend on how the difficult a move or ability is to use. The easier ones will be cheaper to purchase, but the harder and the most useful ones will have players pay a heavy price with their wallets. Of course they can get these upgrades by grinding if they want to.

Influence from DmC version

Itsuno also talked with another publication and divulged their inspiration behind the creation of the latest sequel of the Devil May Cry franchise.

We worked with Ninja Theory in Cambridge to try to do something new with DMC: Devil May Cry. We have certain team members, including myself, who were involved directly with them constantly. On the other hand, we have certain team members on Devil May Cry 5 who didn’t work on that project. They were working on other stuff like Dragon’s Dogma.

We kind of have two camps that came together to make Devil May Cry 5. We all think that there are some wonderful things that we and Ninja Theory did right with DMC and we wanto learn from that, bringing that to Devil May Cry 5.

Then we have the members who never worked on DMC, that also feel like “you know what? We want to see if we can do even better” sending a bit of a challenge out to everybody else including Ninja Theory, about what an action game should be.

The game will launch on PlayStation 4. It will be available on March 8.
