Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Alcatraz

A gaming publication recently revealed that the upcoming title for 2020 will now be called Call of Duty: Black Ops 5, and will not be handled by Sledgehammer Gamers and Raven Software.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 apparently happening

According to a Kotaku report, the upcoming game of the franchise will now be led by Treyarch instead of its first pick. Activision originally picked the support studio Raven Software to co-lead the development with Sledgehammer Games on a Cold War-set game, but this changed very recently. Now, it will become Black Ops 5 to be developed by Treyarch, while the other two will be serving as support.

The development work that was done first by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software will now become the single-player story mode for Black Ops 5, which is also set during the Cold War. It could launch together with the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles, which are expected to get revealed in fall 2020.

Free-to-play revenue model considered

In other related news, the publication reported that Activision executive are considering the free-to-play revenue model. They are also looking into offering a free-to-play component for the upcoming 2019 title of the game franchise. The specifics are still to be finalized.
