Bungie Splits With Activision And Retains Rights to Destiny Franchise

In a rather surprise move, Destiny developer Bungie has announced that they have ended their publishing partnership with Activision.

Bungie ends partnership with publisher

The Destiny franchise developer has finally ended their partnership with Activision due to its expiry. The best part is that they have retained the right to publish the popular franchise in the days to come. Even the DLC plans have not changed, so players and fans will look forward to that.

Here is the official joint statement of the two companies:

Today, we’re announcing plans for Bungie to assume full publishing rights and responsibilities for the Destiny franchise. Going forward, Bungie will own and develop the franchise, and Activision will increase its focus on owned IP and other projects. Activision and Bungie are committed to a seamless transition for the Destiny franchise and will continue to work closely together during the transition on behalf of the community of Destiny players around the world.

Future plans

The developer talked about the future of the Destiny franchise and what they have learned about the recent expansion, Destiny 2 Forsaken. The current DLC roadmap is still going on and the transition will not affect it. They are also looking forward to surprising the community with some upcoming announcements.

The Destiny franchise is now available on PlayStation 4.
