Are Apex Legends Skins Too Expensive?

So I’ve recently started playing Apex Legends and I have to say: it is damn good. I’ve been playing it nonstop almost everyday trying to squeeze in the little time I have between schedule. There’s so many things that this game gets right. It’s fast, it’s fluid, and it’s dynamic. What’s there not to love? For a free-to-play game especially one that came from EA, it’s almost too generous to be true. Almost everyone online has been giving it high praise.

That being said, there are some complains that are circling online. And it’s caught my attention.

Is Apex Legends asking a bit too much for its cosmetics?

Some have even gone to leave a rather detail description as to why this is a bad thing:

Well, on the gameplay everything is rather fair. It’s safe to say that this game is definitely not pay-to-win. Skill, decisive thinking, and a little luck is the way to win. If money had an effect with who the winner is going to be, then you’re probably not going to see much praise from this game.

What sets Apex Legends apart from other free-to-play titles, is that it’s surprisingly not greedy. Microtransactions aren’t as in your face as others. And you do unlock some rather rare items for free if your willing to put in the work. And the unlock isn’t unfair either.

That being said, there are some rather pricey options to have to pay if you want more of what the game has to offer fast. In fact, many of us games media have gone to town talking about it.

And do I think that these people have a point?

Yeah, I kinda do.

As a guy who gut this game for free from Respawn Entertainment I do think that Apex Legends is asking a bit too much. Especially for something that we cannot control. Loot boxes have always been a bane for gamers out there and it’s difficult to say that this is any different. Polished or not, Apex Legends should be conducting a more user-friendly practice when it comes to their approach to making money.

I do believe that this won’t hurt the game too much. It’s in first person, and cosmetics aren’t that big of a deal. Especially more so when you can’t even see them anyway except on your hands. But I do believe that only lessens their worth in general as to why anyone would think they’re worth more than $5.

Here’s to hoping that EA will fix this little fiasco before it turns into another Star Wars Battlefront 2 controversy. While I don’t think that Respawn Entertainment has any real control over what their publishers want. I do believe that they care about the state of the game. It has a lot of polish and love brought into it.

Now if you excuse me. I want to go poison more people with Caustic.
