Sony Confirms ‘PlayStation 5’ Launch Date; More Details On The New Controller

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has made another announcement related to its next-generation console. Jim Ryan, the newly appointed CEO of SIE, just shared sweet details of ‘PlayStation 5‘.

Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020“, Ryan said on his post on PlayStation Blog US. He added more details about the next-gen controller and they have replaced the rumble feature to “haptic feedback”. The team wants to provide a better experience and immersion when players play their games. “One of our goals with the next generation is to deepen the feeling of immersion when you play games, and we had the opportunity with our new controller to reimagine how the sense of touch can add to that immersion.

Another improvement made on the controller is the L2 and R2 triggers — Ryan calls it as “adaptive triggers”. He explained further that developers can incorporate any highly-immersive programming to the resistance of the triggers. “Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.

All of us are really excited about the design of the next-generation PlayStation and also the controller. It’s confirmed that the devkit looks like what was leaked a couple of weeks ago, WIRED confirmed this on their interview.

We can’t wait for further announcements related to PlayStation 5 in the upcoming months.
